I am looking over the code for a MS system stored proc called sp_mergemetadataretentioncleanup.

There is a call to another system proc called - sp_MSmerge_subbased_downloadonly_metadatacleanup.

I am looking for the latter proc in the Master db, but cannot locate. I am sure that it must exist. Does anyone know where the proc is located and/or what the proc does?

Perhaps it's in the resource database, have you looked there through DAC?

Or maybe in msdb or the user database that is using merge replication.

I tried to connect using DAC, but DAC is not supported. I have checked the resource db looking for an object with the proc name - still no luck.

MSDB and model do not have the proc either...

Ok - I have found that the resource database files (mdf/ldf) are located in the Binn folder of the SQL instance. I have found a doc explaining how to copy and attach the resource db to SSMS. This does not mean that I have found my proc yet, but I figured that I would share my steps of a potential solution - enjoy!

Alright - I have found the missing proc in the System Stored Procedures node of the resource db - hopefully above info will help.
