 raw disk in SQL 2005/2008?

Hi,

I was wondering whether it is practical to use Raw Disk in SQL 2005 or SQL 2008? That way SQL will handle the disk itself instead of through Windows OS, resulting in faster disk access. But the downside is that you lose visibility of the files.
