Exclude the database files from the AVS. We exclude mdf, ldf, ndf, bak, trn, and dif. There may be other exclusions, but those are the ones I can think of right now.

You need to exclude a few things in the VS Console
- \Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\mssql.X
- *.mdf
- *.ldf
- *.ndf
- *.trn
- *.bak

Disable on access scanning too. there's more. see here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/309422

edit: i'd put that sniped thing here if i knew how Tara, lol

It's open square bracket, the word sniped, and then closed square bracket: [ s n i p e d] (without the spaces)

we did. it's not a guess. you need to exclude those directories and file types.
