the MSDB log is about 15 GB whereas the data file is only 6 GB. Is there a way to shrink the MSDB log?

Thanks

Yes you can shrink it just like other files. (DBCC SHRINKFILE or the GUI)

Somewhat scary that the Data on MSDB is 6GB - you perhaps not clearing down stale backup history data?

You might have a shed-load of jobs I suppose ... but even so, 6 GB is a lot.

MSDB uses Simple Recovery Model AFAIK ... so for your LDF file to get that big something has racked up some huge transactions. Maybe a delete of the old history data? In which case you could usefully shrink the Data file too.
