TRANSCENDER PRACTICE EXAMS!!!! GET THEM!!!! http://www.transcender.com/

Seriously, get the topmost version that they offer, it's worth every penny. Don't skimp; you're not spending money, you're investing in your career.

I didn't like the Osborne MCDBA 228 book much, but it does have a lot of info in it. I just couldn't grab the writing style, it jumped around a bit in the opening chapters. I haven't checked out other books, but I'd recommend coordinating with some friends or coworkers who are also interested in the exam, you can each buy a different book and share them.

And get as much experience and use with SQL Server as you can. Don't just read the books and do the practice exams, do everything in there FOR REAL. And don't just do it once or twice, set up replication 3 or 4 times before you start feeling like you know it.

One thing you SHOULD NOT do: braindumps or boot camps. They'll teach you how to pass the exam, NOT how to admin SQL Server. If you then get a job from the cert but don't know enough to actually do it, it'll look pretty bad for an MCDBA to get let go because of lack of knowledge or incompetence. Don't be tempted by the too-good-to-be-true easy route, you'll only cheat yourself and waste time and money.

I just came from an MCDBA bootcamp. I learned a hell of a lot. Yes, the focus is on passing the tests, but you will pick up some good stuff if those classes. I didn't get my MCDBA, I still have to pass 215 & 216, but I learned a lot.

If you can afford the time & money to go to one, I would recommend it.
