You only need one transaction log. A second transaction log is used to spill the transactions into another file after the first one fills up. Well your tlog shouldn't fill up if you've got your system setup properly and have monitoring in place. How many data files is really up to you. For a 2TB database, I'd have 32 data files as our standard is 64GB or less for each data file. For backups, I'd either be using native compression (available in enterprise edition) or a third-party backup tool that does compression, such as Quest's Litespeed or Red Gate's SQL Backup. I wouldn't be using any maintenance plans.Tara KizerMicrosoft MVP for Windows Server System - SQL Serverhttp://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/Subscribe to my blog |
