I've installed SP3 on SQLServer 2000, and now I'm having problems running Enterprise Manager and Query Analyzer. It can't seem to find Query analyzer and I get a general error when I try running Enterprise Manager. Typical crash error on mmc.exe.

The instruction at 0x77a7e93c" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read".

I try to use MMC for other things such as IIS, and it runs fine. It has a problem with SQL Server 2000 for some reason. Anyone know? I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks

Have you tried recreating your MSC file?

Click Start > Run... and enter mmc to open an empty new console. Then click on the Console menu and choose Add/Remove Snap-in. Click the Add button, then double-click Microsoft SQL Enterprise Manager. Click Close, then OK. Make sure everything works again, then click the Console menu and Save As... Browse to Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn and replace your existing "SQL Server Enterprise Manager.MSC" file.

Thanks for the reply. Strange. As soon as I hit add, mmc crashes. Any ideas? Thanks.

This has been my experience with mmc, that it has its instabilities. Anyway, try rebooting the box, as this has solved mmc problems for me before in the past.

I rebooted before. Nothing happens. Weird error. I guess I'll have to reinstall. Very frustrating.

Have you tried reinstalling just the SQL Client tools?
