 Getting error While connection

Hi i Installed sql server 2005 in my system. operating system is window xp sp2. its not getting connected. i checked all the solution but when i am tring to open sql server surface area configuration then i am getting error as "No SQL Server 2005 components were found on the specified computer. Either no components are installed, or you are not an administrator on this computer."

Please try to help me..

What edition did you install?

By the way, it sounds like the engine didn't get installed. XP has limited engine possibilities, such as Express or Developer editions.

Can you open up the services (click Run and then type "services.msc") on your xp-machine and see if you find any sql server services? If you don't then there is no database engine that you can connect to... if there is then post the name of the service here.

Hi installed expressed edition..and i think database engin has not been installed. what is the procedure for it?

There is no sql service in services.misc.
so please tell me the solution.

In order to install the SQL server engine, you must select this component during installation wizard.

You need to download and install the database. If you don't have access to any installation media you can download the 2008R2 Express version here: http://www.microsoft.com/express/Database/
