I have had to restore the publisher database several times in the past few days and everytime that I do replication fails with the massage of:

The process could not execute 'sp_repldone/sp_replcounters' on 'MyServer_Publisher'.

Is there a step or option that I'm overlooking?

Please refer to this article: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms152560.aspx

By the way, why did you have to restore "several" times?

The database in question holds the "rules" for data processing. Updates to the rules did not go as well as might have been expected, alas.
