We want to install MS Team Foundation Server on a server that has SQL Server 2005 installed. TFS requires SS 2008 (which we don't have) but if it's not available, TFS will install it's own copy of SS 2008 Express. Will installing SS 2008 Express cause problems for SS 2005 on the same server? |

It shouldn't. I've done a number of installs like that and never had a problem. Just be aware that you only get one default instance on the machine, any new installs must be done as a named instance (unless you uninstall the existing default instance first) |

I just found out that it wants to install SS 2008 R2 Express. I've heard that SS 2008 R2 is very different from SS 2008.This still won't cause a problem? |

Nope, no problem. And they're not that different, except the Express Edition has a 10 GB max database size in R2 (4 GB in 2008) |
