After having forced a system update upon us, we've found what we think is a bugin the Reporting Services PDF extension with SQL 2000.The problem renders certain images un-renderable. It concers version 8.0.1067,perhaps even earlier. We have solved it temporarily be replacingMicrosoft.ReportingServices.ImageRendering.dll with a version dated November 18,2003 (8.0.242).We've tracked the problem down to an errornous markup "/DeviceGray" beingwritten when embedding external 24 bit colour JPEG images. Editing the PDF fileitself, replacing the offending markup tag with "/DeviceRGB" solves the problem, rendering the image correctly.--Since this is an old discontinued product, it seems almost impossible to report this bug to Microsoft. I hope they follow this forum, and shall promptly publish a hotfix that resolves the problem.Hope that our solution can help others!DCI |

SQL 2000 is no longer supported by MS. it is over 11 yrs old and the 3rd version released since is in beta. Time to upgrade. Poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part. |

MS released a security patch that affects a stable system, then they have - in my opinion - an obligation to correct the problem. That pdf rendering problem also occurs in later versions of RS.We have hundreds of well-functioning reports running in an old but so far very stable system, so it is easy to use the buzz word upgrade! That said, it could well be that others in these financially distressed times may use the hint. Thanks for the coffee!DCI |
