 database is taking up too much space

my database (which is big but I don't think should be this big)
is taking up 50 gb and log file 20 gb

how can i look at why and make this amount smaller

please advise

Check the disk usage report in SSMS (right click on database, reports...). Do you have any free space in either file?

no free space should i do shrinc database - what harm can this do?

If there is no free space, then that's the file size that is needed on disk.

You could try rebuilding the indexes to remove fragmentation if any exists. Then check free space.

There has to be free space inside the files in order to shrink them. You need to create free space first.
