Okay, so here's my first post, so hopefully I can get something going here.

What I'm looking at doing is using linked servers and creating and dropping tables on the server I'm linked to. I'm able to do that now, but I was wondering if there were a way to do this without having the server permanently linked to my server.

It'd be something along the lines of adding the server link at the beginning of the query and dropping it at the end. The reason I ask this is because I'm concerned about performance issues on the server I'm linked to if I have it as a permanent connection.

I do apologize if the above comes across like the ramblings of a madman. I think it all makes sense and I thank you in advance.

The link isn't doing anything unless you are running queries through it. So if you aren't running anything on it constantly, then it can not cause issues on the remote or local server.
