This is probably the wrong forum for this but:My current e-commerce site is hosted at a provider that only has 2005 and that's what my e-commerce site is in. I want to move to a site that has 2008.Can I do a backup of 2005 and then restore it into a 2008 db?

I was told by a provider that I was supposed to use the detach/attach method whenconverting the 2005 database to the 2008 version, because it uses a different fileformat.Any truth to this ?

No.Detach/attach, backup/restore both work. the file format is not radically different, SQL 2008 knows how to read the 2005 (and 2000) files and how to convert them. the converse is not true--Gail ShawSQL Server MVP
