Hi,

I need a tool which generates load on a sample database. Since I have the schema, I need to give this as input to the tool, and specify the parameters of how many INSERT, DELETE, UPDATE, SELECT statement to generate. I need this tool to test real database with real life queries.

It's really not that expensive, and if you seriously want to load test your hardware, it's cheap.

I've heard of this package but never used it: http://sqlloadtest.codeplex.com/

I'm not sure if you are looking for a Load generator or a Data generator.

If you are using Visual Studio 2010, this link might help for Data generation:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd193262.aspx

If you are looking to generate load, I don't know of any good free tools. However, you might be able to make use of SQL Profiler with playback. Also, you can use the Data generation to generate Scripts that you can fire off in parallel and/or from different machines to hammer your SQL Server.

There are some free performance testing tools that you might use. Google for "free load testing tool". They usually load test web apps, but you can create simple web doing inserts, updates etc... then run a tool.
