Can you at least go through the options and choose the version (either standard or custom) or can u at least choose x86 or x64? Or does the computer shut down when you put in the disk?

How old is the computer? I have SQL 2005 working on my XP system with SP3. I'm not sure if its a service pack issue.

You'll need to check the event log for the error code and then either open a support case with MS to help you identify and fix it or you'll need to do some googling on the error code. You've likely got something in the OS that is conflicting with another package. It isn't something we can help out with.
