We are using an application software made in VB6 and SQL 2005.
My server has 12 GB RAM and 6 GB AWE Maximum memory. But some stored procedures are very slow to process and get request time out error message.

How can I increase the performance of my application or SQL server. How much maximun memory can I give for AWE out of 12GB server physical memory.

Please help. It is very urgent.

Check Execution Plan to see what to fix.
If necessary, add proper indexes.
Check and refactor your code to NOT use cursors.

For general guidance leave at least 2 GB for OS , and depending on what other services you are running, leave more memory for the OS. This will depend on other factors , such as 32 bit or 64 bit . Check for my notes: http://www.sqlserver-dba.com/2010/10/sql-server-2005-memory-configuration-management.html
For stored procedure issue - focus on the execution plan . Investigate the code and ensure , the code is exploting the indexes. Ensure the statistics are up to date
Consider posting the execution plan - and we can analyse

If you are looking to understand the basics of optimizing individual procedures, check out this site:
www.sqloptimizationsschool.com

It will take you through all of the introductory items (reviewing execution plans, making modifications to procedures/tables, etc)
