Why can't I perform the two steps below in my Adventure Works Sample Database setup? I'm missing the "SQL Server 2005 Maintenance Wizard" & "Workstation Components".

1. From Add or Remove Programs, select Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and click Change. Follow the steps in the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Maintenance wizard.

2. From Component Selection, select Workstation Components and then click Next.

I'm running windows XP, office 2003. SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP3.

Thanks

SQL Server Maintenance Plans require SQL Server Agent - which is not include in the Express Editions of SQL Server. You will need to upgrade to a version that includes both maintenance plans and SQL Server Agent to use them.

There are plenty of scripts available that can do this for you. The most popular at this time is Ola Hallengren's set of scripts. Implement these and use Windows Scheduler and SQLCMD to schedule the maintenance tasks.
