Hi,
If we are doing some sql manipulation(eg:insertion and deletion) on two
databases on the 'same server,

1) which transaction statement is to be used?'Begin transaction or 'begin distributed transaction'
2)What is the significance of Distributed Transaction Coordinator in the above process?

for manipulation with in a server Begin transaction is enough..

If you are querying remote servers using Linked servers. u can use Distributed Transactions.

and more over if you use Begin tran on remote servers Distributed Transaction Coordinator will convert Begin transactions transactions in to BEGIN DISTRIBUTED TRANSACTION.
