| Sundar Santhanam writes "HiI used the setting -T1204 and -T3605 ad obtained the SQL transaction log. My first question is what is the actual use of 1204 and 3605? To obtain the logs, would it be enough to specify 1204?Looking at the log there were some potential problems that I think are present.2003-05-02 21:09:42.25 spid4 Node:12003-05-02 21:09:42.25 spid4 2003-05-02 21:09:42.25 spid4 Wait-for graph2003-05-02 21:09:42.25 spid4 2003-05-02 21:09:42.25 spid4 ...2003-05-02 21:11:49.75 spid4 ResType:LockOwner Stype:'OR' Mode: X SPID:100 ECID:0 Ec:(0x54063520) Value:0x742003-05-02 21:11:49.75 spid4 Victim Resource Owner:2003-05-02 21:11:49.75 spid4 ResType:LockOwner Stype:'OR' Mode: X SPID:100 ECID:0 Ec:(0x54063520) Value:0x742003-05-02 21:11:49.75 spid4 Requested By: 2003-05-02 21:11:49.75 spid4 Grant List 3::2003-05-02 21:11:49.75 spid4 Input Buf: RPC Event: GetMultipleTopTasks;12003-05-02 21:11:49.75 spid4 SPID: 189 ECID: 0 Statement Type: UPDATE Line #: 2932003-05-02 21:11:49.75 spid4 Owner:0x64711320 Mode: S Flg:0x0 Ref:0 Life:02000000 SPID:189 ECID:02003-05-02 21:11:49.75 spid4 Grant List 1::2003-05-02 21:11:49.75 spid4 KEY: 7:2105058535:1 (2901711edff3) CleanCnt:2 Mode: U Flags: 0x02003-05-02 21:11:49.75 spid4 Node:22003-05-02 21:11:49.75 spid4 2003-05-02 21:11:49.75 spid4 ResType:LockOwner Stype:'OR' Mode: U SPID:189 ECID:0 Ec:(0x585A5520) Value:0x652003-05-02 21:11:49.75 spid4 Requested By: 2003-05-02 21:11:49.75 spid4 Input Buf: RPC Event: GetMultipleTopTasks;12003-05-02 21:11:49.75 spid4 SPID: 100 ECID: 0 Statement Type: UPDATE Line #: 2932003-05-02 21:11:49.75 spid4 Owner:0x74d7fde0 Mode: U Flg:0x0 Ref:2 Life:02000000 SPID:100 ECID:02003-05-02 21:11:49.75 spid4 Grant List 3::2003-05-02 21:11:49.75 spid4 Grant List 1::2003-05-02 21:11:49.75 spid4 KEY: 7:2105058535:1 (2901711edff3) CleanCnt:2 Mode: U Flags: 0x0In here, SPID 189 seems to be blocked. Is this a case of a dead lock or a blocking issue? How can I tell the difference? What are the ways in which I can avoid this situation?Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.Regards" |

| For your first question here is an explanation of the 2 flags.Trace flags 1204:Returns the type of lock participating in the deadlock and the current command affect by deadlock.Trace flags 3605:Sends trace output to the error log.(If you start SQL Server from the command prompt, the output also appears on the screen).HTHFranco |
