Hi All

Im trying to understand the concept of File Groups.

> Please can someone explain why any database would need more than one File Group for their database i.e. the Primary File Group (.mdf) and they would then create secondary File Groups i.e. .ndf's?

> If I create secondary filegroups, do they have tables, functions, stored procedures associated with them? what are they used for?

Thanks

Filegroups are used to separate tables and indexes out onto other drives, for either IO performance or database recoverability.
