- 64 bit 2008 server with 128 GB RAM- SQL Server 2005 SP2- 20 SQL instances (1 root and 19 other instances)This is a new server and the instances from two other servers are being moved into this machine. Therefore, I don't want to change anything like applying SP3/4 or use SQL 2008 for now.Right now, SQL Server has allocated 127 GB of RAM and I am afraid nothing has left for Windows. Is it a good approach to set the Max server memory to 6 GB for each instance? Isn't it possible to tell SQL Server to use and manage 124 GB for its all instances? Thanks!Canada DBA |

You have to set it per instance.Leaving 8 GB for the OS is a good approach. Setting each of them to 6 GB, well, we can't tell from here. Depends on the memory requirements for each instance. |
