Hi everyone,I need to install 2005 Client/Management tools onto a laptop which has the Windows 7 *64-bit* operating system. Are there any issues I should be aware of?Oh, it has Visual Studio 2008 - should I uninstall that before installing the client tools? Thanks much. John |

Thanks, tkizer. But it has 2005 Express installed, which (apparently) is auto-installed with Visual Studio 2008.He doesn't even need 2005 Express - do you recommend uninstalling 2005 EXPRESS before installing 2008 Client tools? Thanks, John |

Regarding compatibility issues, make sure you install service pack 4 for SQL2k5 as those go away after the service pack is installed. You should also install the critical security hotfix that was released post sp4. We install the QFE hotfixes that contain other bug fixes. If you aren't comfortable with these as they aren't tested as much by MS, then install the GDR hotfix instead which is just the critical security hotfix for sp4.Tara KizerMicrosoft MVP for Windows Server System - SQL Serverhttp://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/Subscribe to my blog |
