Hi all, simples one for you here

Im a novice at SQL but have been thrown into learning advanced databases when I haven't even done basic db's yet!

I just want to know if there is a difference between fragmentation and partitioning a distributed database?

Is it ok to say "By fragmenting, also known as partitioning, the data..." does it make sense?

Umh...NO! These are two completely different concepts. In an obscure way you might be able to justify saying that partitioned data is fragmented (stored in different fragments) but this would be stretching the terms pretty far.
