Jason Lawrence writes "Does SQL 7.0 (or and SQL 7.0 SP) have an option similar to SQL 2000's Simple Recovery Mode? I am looking to eliminate a DB from using a log file. Or am I stuck with trun. log on checkpoint?"

Truncate log on checkpoint is a SQL Server 6.5 thing. SQL Server 7.0 has the option of SIMPLE recovery model already.Tara

I'm pretty sure recovery models were introduced in 2000. In 7.0 you have two options to work with that equate to the recovery model. "Truncate Log on checkpoint" and "Select into/bulk copy". Here's a small matrix of how things equate. HTHSelect into/Bulk copy ON AND Trunc. Log on chkpt ON = SimpleSelect into/Bulk copy OFF AND Trunc. Log on chkpt ON = SimpleSelect into/Bulk copy ON AND Trunc. Log on chkpt OFF = Bulk_LoggedSelect into/Bulk copy OFF AND Trunc. Log on chkpt OFF = FullJeff Banschbach, MCDBA

Recovery models did exist in 7.0. I was just incorrect about SIMPLE being available in 7.0. I found a 7.0 box here and under Recovery, the options are truncate log on checkpoint and/or select into bulk copy. So to answer Jason's question, truncate log on checkpoint is what you want for 7.0.Tara
