Hi

new to the forum, 2 out of 5 grade SQL experience.

Here is my question:

In our customer service database we have a field with free text input where an agent can write:

Got "error 1", looked into \\server\data\test.ini

The field is stored into a varchar(max) field but occasionally we get strange errors that most likely are caused by a combination of the special characters " \ ', but we could not put our finger on the exact cause.

What field type is suggested for this kind of data?

Thanks

varchar(max) is fine with this. If you are getting an error, it's a code problem.

the problem may be the way you use the data rather than storing it. varchar(max) doesnt seem to be cause for this.
