Can you do a restore in 7.0 like 2000, where if the db doesn't exist, it will create it for you..or do have create on first?

You do not have to create the database first. If the database exists, you need to specify WITH REPLACE in the RESTORE command. This applies for both SQL 7 and SQL2k. I always put WITH REPLACE in the RESTORE command just out of habit.

Houston, we have a problem

Server: Msg 3120, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The database you are attempting to restore was backed up under a different sort order ID (52) than the one currently running on this server (53), and at least one of them is a non-binary sort order.
Server: Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Backup or restore operation terminating abnormally.

What's the out of the box sort order for 7? 52 or 53?

And WHY anyone in the states would not choose the out of the box config is beyond me.

52 is the default.

And since they layed everyone off...there's no one left in HR to blame...

Time to rebuild the box....
