How bad would be to have .mdf and .ldf files of one db on save drive in clustered environment? Is this going to make slower server when do re-indexing in this DB? |

Clustered has no bearing. It is recommended to split data and log files onto different drives. Whether you will see a noticeable difference in performance is impossible to answer without knowing a lot more about your environment.-Chad |

To maximise the splitting the drives - i.e data and logs - needs to to be underpinned by the drives being two separate IO channels , such as separate adapters , separate disks etcOther options include splitting the data file into different filegroups , across different drives - this depends on workload, data , and query typesJack Vamvas--------------------http://www.sqlserver-dba.com |

It also depends a lot on the SAN you are using and how it is configured, and how the paths are setup in the HBA's, how many HBA's you have, how much cache the SAN has and a whole lot of other considerations. |

To put it simple, not a good practice to have .mdf and .ldf files on the same drive. And Yes, it will slower the performance while re-indexing. |

It also worth highlighting , there are perfomance gains related to separating the TempDB on its own dedicated drive - due to large amount of spillover activity in TempDBJack Vamvas--------------------http://www.sqlserver-dba.com |
