Where is the best location (c:, or other drive) to install SQL server?

Currently I install on C:\ except for Data files and Log files. Would it be better to install all initially on C: and only put new (non-system) databases on a different volume? All SQL install files would be on C:\ which seems cleaner.

This would make it easier to disjoin a SAN volume or virtual disk and re-attach in needed to a different server.

The way I currently install now puts SQL prorgam files/folders on the D:\ along with the system DB's.

Thank You for any advice.

Keeping Tempdb on a separate drive is recommended as a performance benefit.
