I have scheduled total 3 backups as follows

1. Full backup at 03:00 AM every day with overwirte existing file option.
2. Full backup at 13:30 PM every day with overwrite existing file option.
3. Differential backup at every hour with overwrite existing file option.

Now if i try to restore database with latest full backup and differentiol back up,
full backup gets restored successfully, but when i try to restore differential backup
it shows me following error.

"The preceding restore operation didnt specify WITH NONCOVERY or WITH STANDBY.
Restart the restore sequence, specifying WITH STANDBY for all but the final step.
Backup or restore operation terminating abnormally."

Is it due to i set overwrite option for differential back up? should it be append?

What can be the reason?

Thanc in advance.

Are you spceifying With NORECOVERY for the restore of full backup? If you don't specify it SQL will understand that database must be recovered and will not allow you to restore additional bdiferential or tran log.
