Hi experts,

When I wanted to install the SQL server 2008 R2 management studio, I encountered the following error:

TITLE: SQL Server Setup failure.
------------------------------

SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error:

The type initializer for 'System.Xml.Schema.XmlUntypedConverter' threw an exception.

Error code 0x84B10001.

------------------------------

Previously I installed the SQL server 2008, but after several times I couldn't connect to the DB in my school, I decided to uninstall the SQL server 2008. However, the program also encountered this error. So I manually deleted the directory and the registry keys. And now I want to install the SQL server 2008 R2, but the problem still remains. Can anyone help me? Thanks so much.

If you deleted directories and registry keys without following a detailed manual uninstall doc from Microsoft, then I would imagine the computer is rather hosed. You likely will need to either open a support case with Microsoft to get it resolved or reinstall the OS.

tkizer, thanks so much for your help, it seems like I shouldn't have deleted them manually. I think I have to reinstall the OS right now to fix the problem.

Life is great!
