SQL Server Name not same as Windows Server Name

SQL Server Name not same as Windows Server Name

Hi all,

@@servername returns SERVER1E but actual windows server name is SERVER1

Ping Server1E gets no reply.

Is it likely the server name was changed in Windows at some point?
Thanks for any tips
