Is it safe to run a disk defragmentation task on a disk that has SQL Server installed on it?Will it impact performance of the databases?Could it cause any data corruption? Thanks |

I only defragment the disk when the SQL Service is stopped (i.e. schedule downtime). I specifically defragment Data and Index files individually (using CONTIG from Sysinternals) to try to get them onto contiguous disk space.Every little helps (EDIT: For avoidance of doubt we don't schedule downtime in order to defrag files, but we do defrag files when we have downtime for other activities, such as upgrading hardware) |
