I have not done that myself. But, I'm pretty sure that you can just do a backup and restore. |

We used backup/restore with full, diff and log backups. You can also use mirroring or log shipping.Tara KizerSQL Server MVP since 2007http://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/ |

Since the physical server will be a new name doesn'r code have to be changed to point to the server, like the apps, also we have to create all the users? |

Yes connection strings will have to change unless you are using a DNS alias. But that's not something a DBA handles.Yes you'll need to create any logins, jobs, etc. Anything outside of the user database will need to be scripted.Tara KizerSQL Server MVP since 2007http://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/ |

The upgrade advisor comes with SQL Server 2012 feature pack. Point it at the target sql server instance and it will create a report for you. Look for SQLUA.MSI and choose the relevant architectureJack Vamvas--------------------http://www.sqlserver-dba.com |
