Hello everybody. I am going to restore my master, model, msdb, and tempdb from my previous MS sql server 2008 r2 to the new MS SQL Server 2012 r2. Is that possible, or not?Thanks for your answer!!MP |

The system databases are designed to work with the current version, therefore the sql server 2008 r2 system dbs, work with sql server 2008r2.To migrate objects , such as jobs, backup history etc, think about scripting these moves to sql 2012Jack Vamvas--------------------http://www.sqlserver-dba.com |

So, I decided to install MS SQL server 2008 on my new server. Do we need any order to restore system database, and database for the application?Thanks for your anserMP |

No its not possible to restore system databases of one SQL server version on system database of different version . Hope your destination database is SQL Server 2012.
