We host multiple instances of sql server 2005 on a single server. Each instance is assigned it's own IP address so that all instances can run on port 1433.Last week all client database connections stopped working. Further investigation found that the client conection string that had previously used the SERVER\INSTANCE name, no longer worked. The only fix was to change the connection to use the instance IP address. This applied to ODBC connections as well.As far as I know, nothing was changed in the infrastructure for the network or protocols, etc. Has anyone seen this before and know what caused it? Thanks.dan |

Check the SQL Browser service. I would restart it and then test again.Tara KizerSQL Server MVP since 2007http://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/ |
