On one particular server I have I constantly need to keep backing up the logs with truncate_only and shrinking the database because I need more disk space. More disks are on the way but for now I have to deal with it. In any event, I recently received a requirement to log ship this db to our disaster recovery facility and was wondering if log shipping will work with the truncate_only backup log statement because doesn't that blow away the logs?

Sorry for the long winded explaination...Thanks in advance.

No,

TRUNCATE_ONLY truncates the log, and thus invalidates any log backups. A regular log backup however should still truncate the log for you, and give the same resultr the truncate_only is giving you. You may have to do it with a bit more frequency though.

BACKUP LOG without the TRUNCATE_ONLY will free up the space in the LDF file. But the data is saved in a backup file. So you will need the disk space for this for log shipping.
