If this keeps happening for no apparent reason you probably have a hardware problem. Run some diagnostics on the disk. Are you getting any errors in the nt event log?

Are you doing anything dubious? Running out of space, detach/attach, large imports,...
Does it happen after maintenance operations?

Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.
DTS can be used in a similar way.

Possible causes are databases files not found, no space in the Disk, db corruption.
Check sql error log and windows event log for details.
Check if some programs, maybe third party backup tools, or even the OS, has control on disks and maybe also exclusive access to them in some particular time (when you startup your server).
...and please have a look at BOL under "suspect", you will find very interesting arguments.
Don't forget to search on this forum how to reset the status of a suspect db.
Good luck.
