Hi Harshal!

It's not a good idea to delete any of them. It's possible that the server would still run without msdb, but why would you want to remove it? It's not very large as I recall, and if you don't use any of the functionality in it, it won't grow.

Welllllll, it's possible, just like it's possible to remove your heart, lungs, and brain and still stay alive...for about 60 seconds.

Don't let Robs comment stop you.. Have a go...

According to BOL it is impossible....

Harshal, why, why, why, why would you want to do that?

Do not touch master, model, msdb, or tempdb. Northwind and pubs can be deleted (these are not system databases, but you get them with each install).

If you already deleted any of them, hopefully you've got a backup or at least have already started reinstalling SQL Server due to the fatal errors that you are currently getting.

Thankyou everyone for all your valuable inputs.
I have not deleted any of these databases, and don't even plan to try that feat.
This was a question which was asked to me in a interview.I was sure about the answer but just wanted to make sure.
thanks.

there is no option for deleting these databases from the em as microsoft doesn't allow it.Still if these databases are deleted,it may work if the model or msdb is deleted provided no new database is created and no jobs are configured.
