| Satish writes "My question to all of you is, on daily/weekly/monthly basis what are all the tasks/jobs/checks that a database administrator needs to check/ perform to ensure the health of the SQL Server instance interms of security, performance, housekeeping etc etc and the Server itself are in good health. Some of which I am listing.1. Ensure the database backup are taken on the scheduled (Hourly/Half a day/Once in a day etc)timings.2. Need to check the Database log file's size. 3. Disk space available on the server.4. Regular DBCC check statements at all levels needs to be executed to check the health of the SQL Server and the databases.5. The IIS services should not be running on the database server for security reasons.6. Managing the SQL Server users and windows users.7. Check for execution plans of procedures which take more than required time to execute. Will be glad here from all of you. Thanks & Regards,Satish." |

| Not sure if you can 'automate' it but unless you're up there on the security end of things, the warez people will find your sql server anyway if they can get admin access to the IIS server. They were totally uniterested in my friend's website or DB. They just wanted their free hosting (IIS) and a great big distro stash (SQL machine). I think a diskpie should spot the warez quickly. Wish there was a old command line text version (like the old DOS dirtot that cant handle very large files). I don't have control of network security but if I was I wouldn't know how to prevent that from happening other than frequent patching. This happened to our company also but unfortunaly the sql server and web server are the same machine so they were able to run up a $6000+ bandwidth bill in just 3 months as they were able to fit 10,000+mp3s few dozen warez CDs, and 12 DVDs on it. I bet they put more at the other company's machine.****************************************Check out my pictures at http://www.pbase.com/GreatIncaCheck out my company's site!http://www.jobing.com (Market picker for first visit)http://phoenix.jobing.com (corporate home market if you don't live in a covered market) |
