Hi,

I was trying to upgrade SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition with service pack 2 but I am getting below message

Process Name: MSSQLSERVER Locked files found. A reboot will be required if processes are not closed.
Process Name: MSSQLSERVEROLAPService Locked files found. A reboot will be required if processes are not closed.
Process Name: MsDtsServer Locked files found. A reboot will be required if processes are not closed.

Twice I restart server but same message I am getting

any expert opinion plz

Have you installed the service pack? All that means is that the server will have to be rebooted after the installation completes. If that's not a problem (uptime requirements) then don't worry.

Looks like it installed fine.
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.3042.00

Version 9.00.3042 is SP2

But with same service pack which installed on another server gives me

select @@version

Why it is like that????

3054 - means you applied hotfix after applying SP2

And the reference to Service pack 1/Service pack 2 in the message is referring to the version of the windows operating system, not SQL.

Your SP2 patch has installed successfully. No need to worry.
On the 2nd server, someone's installed one of the post-SP2 hotfixes/cumulative updates.

Oh, and a service pack won't ever downgrade the version. So if the second server was already on build 3054 when you went to install service pack 2, the installation would run, but it wouldn't actually do anything, because the sql version is already higher than the one you're installing.
