hi guys,
over the last week I have noticed an increased amount of locking on one of my servers.

This is a reporting server so only Select statements are being run.
Would there be locking due to an increased activity on the server or could it be that some settings have been changed ?
where do I need to start looking to try and fix this ?

this is not a direct answer to your question but...
Since it is a reporting sever have you considered using read uncommitted trans isol levels? (ie: nolock)

hi TG,
I have actually started to use with (nolock) on the tables , but unsure why I have had to start doing this.

an increase in locking could be due to a lot of things. Are you by any chance logging execution durations? If you are having some performance problems then obviously that will result in longer running SELECTs which will increase locking. And as you mentioned, increased user activity will also do it. What specific symptoms are you seeing?
