Hi there,

I got a shared web hosting server with sql server db which is 2k, and now ive got dedicated with godaddy where i installed sql 2005 express edition, now my shared hosting ppl gave me db bkup which i cant restore , so i copied all data from asp.net web based enterprise manager into an excel sheet and am trying to copy that data into sql2005 management studio express, however it doesnt let me do that.

I am trying to use openrowset, but my knowledge in sql is minimal so cant run that either.

can you please please please tell me how to do this asap, its very urgent as my contract runs out with shared hosting on 31 and ive to switch this site live by tomorrow.

please let me know asap wat to do, i can pay also for this job?

Why did you do like this? You should be able to restore 2000 bkup file in SQL 2005? Tell us what error you got.

Amit,
From what I can understand from your thread, your hosting ppl helped you to backup your db and passed you the backuped file. You can't restore the db, because the restore point doesn't show up in your new SQL 2005 server.

If my understanding is correct, you probably using wrong method of migrating your database.

Since you have the excel file, you may able to do a data import from SQL Server 2005. Please google it for how to import data from excel file. I believe it pratically need a lot of manual import for your database.

My advice, goto MSDN and learn more on database migration. No one in the world can accept data lost. :)

Good Luck.

I ve the backup files, and I've tried restoring them on Win XP with MSDE, Win 2k Adv Server with Sql server 2k and Win XP with Sql Server 2005, however when I try to restore the backup it says, Restore header terminated abnormally and some 32000 error and exits and when I try to copy records from Excel file into db tables in Sql express, it takes them as incorrect values and hence does not accept the data, any clues on what to do ?
