Please point me towards some good trusted (possibly economical) Data Conversion tools for converting legacy system SQL 2000 (XML, Image all data type) db data to SQL 2005 database (and possibly to Oracle too) in a totally different db schema/structure. |

| I doubt that any such tool exists since the schemas are different. I'd suggest upgrading from 2000 to 2005 via detach/attach or backup/restore, and then converting your data to the new schema via custom written T-SQL scripts.Tara KizerMicrosoft MVP for Windows Server System - SQL Serverhttp://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/Subscribe to my blog |

| So are we saying there are no helpful tools or scripts or utilities that are available and can be helpful in our conversion/migration effort? |

| How would any company be able to write such a tool when the migration would be dependent on each client's schema changes?Tara KizerMicrosoft MVP for Windows Server System - SQL Serverhttp://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/Subscribe to my blog |

| You could script all objects from 2000 databases and then recreate them in 2005. |

How does that answer the poster's question? If you're just going to script in 2000 and then create them in 2005, you might as well just do detach/attach or backup/restore.Tara KizerMicrosoft MVP for Windows Server System - SQL Serverhttp://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/Subscribe to my blog |

| I've never been comfortable with tools like the Oracle Migration Workbench for my migrations from one RDBMS platform to another. Every time I've used them, I have had to fix the many problems the tool introduced. Plus there is no tool that I know of which does a decent job of migrating T-SQL stored procedures, triggers, etc. to Oracle's PL/SQL. So I have always performed these types of migrations more manually. I do often use SQL Server's Data Transformation Services (DTS) through ODBC to move the data from SQL Server to Oracle. But I use this tool after I have already created my tables and indexes. Then I re-create my views, procedures, triggers and other database objects.its me monty |
