| I have a web based application db server that I recently took over as DBA for. I am seeing many Starting Deadlock Search, then End Deadlock Search. I get several of these a minute.I don't remember this series of messages from other servers and this server is giving me some performance issues. So I am really digging into the performance, logs, SP, UDF etc.My thinking is that these are because of potential blocking of resources checking for deadlocks. Looking at the SQL locks deadlocking is not a problem.Your inputs would be appreciated. Also if you know of some inexpensive performance testing tools, please let me know. So far, execution plans show no issues, perfmon shows what I would consider higher than normal CPU and memory use for limited number of users (20-30), Profiler shows very heavy IO and we do get 30 sec timeouts (from webserver) often. This is a quad 64 bit 3. GHz box with 8 GB ram and averages about 30 connections from the web servers. IMHO - should never see a timeout with this kind of processing power. But was not here for development and still trying to get my hands on performance and design issues.ThanksRaymond LaubertMCITP:Administration, MCThttp://www.rd-webhosting.comHome Based Business Library and Hosting |

| Ok, apparently the last DBA did have these turned on. No one here can remember why, so I have turned them off as we do not have a deadlock problem from what I can tell.Do you know, based on you knowledge if these take up much in the way of resources?Raymond LaubertMCSE, MCDBA, MCITP:Administration, MCT |
