I'm curious, if you could suppy a list of the top items, as a DBA, you think are the top priorities on your database server to monitor. From database statistics to CPU usage. The sky is the limit.

Here is a list of a few things I Monitor

on the Performance Monitor...Go for Buffer Cache Hit Ratio --- should be > 95% always, PageFaults should be less, Index Statistics and Fragmentation (check DBCC Showcontig for Sql server 2000 and sys.dm_index_physical_Stats for 2005 and a loads of DMV's on 2005... SQL SERVER profiler for the Queries with more reads , writes and CPU....Execution Plan to determine whether the optmizer is using the appropriate indexes and to determine the type of join used by the index....Activity monitor for the Jobs and the Open Transactions that are currently running on the SQL server....SQL SErver Log ...Sql server Agent Log ...Database Mail Log(if you are using it) and then ...Event Viewer...Disk Space(xp_fixeddrive)...Log Truncations...Backups........My favourite is sysprocesses.
