Hi all,
In my new environment right now we are facing performance related issue. We have one import job runs 4 times a day usually takes 10 minutes. but according to this guys since last 1 month the same job takes longer like 25 minutes for one particular time. this is very random behaviour. It runs long at any time at any day sometimes even on saturday or sunday when end users are not connected
What areas should I check on primary basis? and if its blocking but then on sunday no end users are retriving anything then also it takes longer. We have enough disk space and memory on SQL 2005 SP2.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Have you checked SQL Profiler and Performance Monitor?

I put some templates on profiler and found some SPs which are taking longer than usual. But i couldnt find any process due to which they are taking longer.
I am not sure what counters to put in perfmon I put avg queue lengh,%processor time, memory pages\sec but got normal results.I know its very broad question but i m not getting any hint

Are your indexes fragmented? Do you have a job that routinely defragments them? How about your statistics?

See my blog for sample code, specifically my database maintenance routines:

Ya I have all these maintainance plans set up and they runs once in a day at off peak period. My first import runs early morning at 3 o'clock which creates fragmentation for3 particular indexes but we are defragmenting them right after the import job.

I guess see in Profiler if stored procedures are getting recompiled everytime they run.

Did you check disk i/o? Did db files grow during data loading? Did you see blocking in trace?
