A report model project is a container for the model and consists of one or more data source (.ds) files, one or more data source view (.dsv) files, and one or more report model (.smdl) files. While report server project keeps your report definition (.rdl) file and any other resource files that you need for your report.

You can develop a model an provide it online at your report-server. This model can be the base for the onlie report builder. A User can build reports online only with data of that model.
