I have been trying to install this update for three weeks I got error code FF at first, but I played around and now I get error code 780...there is nothing online about how to fix this and I need help badly
I just want this update to install and not fail!

I have the same issue with a cumulative update to SP2 on Enterprise Edition MS SQL Server 2005.

what do i have to do to fix the problem? install something? if so what?
how did you solve the problem and how can i prevent it from happening again?

okay i think i copied the installation file to the local disc under sql server and now i get error cod 2AFE? what does that mean and how do I fix it? Nevermind now it is back to error code 780, any other suggestions?

Did you logon windows as local admin?

yes of course, my problem is error code 780...what does that code even mean and how can i fix it to allow this update to install? I am running vista home basic i have a dell inspiron e1505 laptop...if more info is necessary to solve the problem, i'll gladly provide it. I have tried copying the install files to the local disk ....

But 780 comes after above error, you need fix those permission errors first.

What's sql service account? The error says your windows account doesn't have permission to start service.

Ensure your account is in windows local admin group (check it in computer management) and in sql sysadmin server role (check it in ssms).
