May be an simple question, but driving me crazy...

Something out in my network is trying to connect to a DB that does not exist any longer on the 24th and 50th minuet of ever hour. When it cant connect it throws the following error in my application log:

#50070: Unable to connect to the database DBNAME on SERVERX. Check the database connection information and make sure that the database server is running.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I believe this may be the root of problems that are happening elsewhere but cannot figure out for the life of me where the connection attempts are coming from. If I can get a hold of the workstation that is making the calls my problem will be solved. Finding it is the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Run SQL Profiler to get the hostname.

There is no field for host name... I was able to catch the call, but nothing identifying the source....

I'm not sure what you mean by there not being a field for hostname. There certainly is. Did you select the option to include that column in your trace?

By default, SQL Server will give you the IP address of the originator of the failed login in the errorlog. Nothing there?

Update:

I was able to find out, due to your help, that its ther SQL server its self creating these errors, and sharepoint is the culprit, but am still unable to figure out why sharepoint services is making the call. As i said im not the DBA... where can i find what jobs are running at any given time?

TIA

You can use this:

select x.name from dbo.sysjobs x inner join
dbo.sysjobactivity y on x.job_id =y.job_id
where y.run_requested_date between @startdate and @Enddate
